Twinkling Stars is full of terrific 2 year olds who are bursting with energy and are eager to learn. This room can accommodate up to 12 children aged between 2 – 3 years old. The ratio of staff to children is 1:4 as children become more independent in their abilities.
Staff members are well experienced in providing routine, structure, boundaries and ensuring that children’s needs are continuously met throughout the day through planned activities within their key groups and as a whole group. Children love to explore with new resources and equipment at this age as they enjoy many messy activities and playing outdoors learning new skills.
This is a special time where children learn boundaries and the important role that their key person shares with their parents. Consistency between the nursery and parents is essential to ensure that routines and new skills are encouraged.
During this stage of their development, the Prime Areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) are still very important to the basis of a child’s learning. This includes their Physical Development, Communication & Language and Personal, Social and Emotional Development. The Specific Areas of the EYFS become more apparent as children learn about their environment and new experiences through Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding of the World and Expressive Arts & Design.
Parents can help with their child’s development through supporting the next steps that have been identified by the key person.
The children are learning to be more independent as they are potty training, attempting to put on their own shoes & coat and build special relationships with their peers. Their communication skills are developing rapidly as they learn to put words into sentences and try to express themselves.
The only medication that will be administered to children will be for life long conditions such as asthma, allergies, diabetes, EPI pens etc. No Calpol, Ibuprofen, Paracetamol or Anti-Biotics will be administered as these are for short term illnesses and a poorly child should be kept at home to prevent the spread of infections. If a child becomes poorly at nursery, parent(s) will be contacted in order for them to collect the child as soon as possible or for an alternative person to collect the child. Please refrain from bringing in a sick child to nursery.
